IGNACIO
TOVAR 'S DONATION The first exhibit, an acrylic on wood from 1979, belongs to a time when Tovar 's paintings were influenced by such artists as Matisse or Mondrian, which later evolved into abstract American artists such as Rothko and finally resulted in schemes where colour becomes the prime storyline of each canvas. Over the course of these years, the painting of Ignacio Tovar revolved around abstraction, based on a construction system of colour fields, where he combines the freedom of action with a rigorous composition. The second painting is a large polyptych made up of 12 pieces in charcoal and red chalk on paper. After the '90s -a decade when Tovar's art turned to a certain figuration through the incorporation of basic forms-, the artist returned to an abstraction centred around the quest and study of colour and drawing. This work from 2000 belongs to this specific artistic period. In Ignacio Tovar's artistic career, the iconic has often been featured, not only in his series of homage-composites, such as the one paid to actress Rita Hayworth's hair, which is part of the CAAC's collection, but also in the titles of his artwork. Here, he reveals his passion for flamenco through his main figures. Such is the case of the work of art "Diego del Gastor", which is also part of the collection of the CAAC. In Ignacio Tovar's career, the analysis and exploration of colour has strengthened the maturity of an artist who remains excited about the possibilities that painting offers.
