.: COLLECTION_JORDI TEIXIDOR DONATION | |||||||||
Date: 27 February
- 23 June 2013 The relationship between painting and poetry has been a constant in the intentionality of Teixidor's art. Even though 12 years separate the two works on display here, they are united by a shared reference to poetry, a fact that is underscored by both titles. Siete maneras de mirar una mañana de domingo (Seven Ways of Looking at a Sunday Morning), fashioned to represent the sequence or cadence of a verse, alludes to the American poet Wallace Stevens, who was interested in and often wrote about the relationship that could be established between two different ways of creating. The title is an amalgam of two of his poems: "Sunday Morning" and "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird". The theme of Wallace Stevens' work was poetry itself, just as in this piece by Teixidor the theme is none other than painting itself. Todo es presagio (All Is Portent) borrows the title of a poem by Antonio Gamoneda from the anthology Arden las pérdidas (Losses Are Burning), which speaks of oblivion, the disappearance of limits and the possibility of drawing closer to the light from the very heart of darkness. This theme and the use of black with its signification as a testimonial position dominate the works from this period. |
