Date: From 27
February 2013 The work of this singular artist, essential for understanding Andalusian art's transition to modernity, is intimately bound up with the landscape and the path of the River Guadalquivir as it wends its way from Seville to the sea at Sanlúcar de Barrameda. The La Viña series focuses specifically on the latter town and its La Jara district, where over time the artist has created her own private vineyard, on a plot surrounded by older plantations, which she alters and transforms in a continuous process of reflection that reveals a sensibility close to yet different from that of land art. After countless hours spent observing and analyzing the objects that populate her environment and the surrounding landscape, in which she herself intervenes, Carmen Laffón has acquired the ability to synthesize their symbolic and ordinary qualities in her artwork, salvaging the dregs of memory, of time and of existence itself.
