Trained as an architect, like many other members of the generation
of abstract painters active in Seville in the 1970s, Juan Suárez
(El Puerto de Santa María, 1946) started out at Galería
La Pasarela, which also exhibited many of the artists represented
by Juana Mordó’s gallery in Madrid, including the Cuenca
Group and the Spanish “informalists”. José Ramón
Sierra, Gerardo Delgado and Juan Suárez were part of that
group of young people eager for renewal and uncontaminated by an
official art education, having studied at the school of architecture,
where they were more exposed to international trends.
This retrospective will span his entire career,
but it will introduce structural elements to facilitate a non-linear
interpretation of the selected works and rethink the exhibition
space.
